DEFINITION
Abrus precatorius, also known as red pea or paternoster Bean, is a climbing shrub in the family Fabaceae. The seed is highly toxic
PRESENNTATION
It has alternate leaves composed of small pale purple to pink flowers in clusters.
Compound leaves have from 8 to 17 pairs of membranous, oblong or oblong-obovate follioles. The inflorescences are 2-7 cm long, the Corolla is pink to purple.
The fruits are pods that often mingle, twist into clusters and contain 3-7 very hard, Scarlet seeds with a black spot near the hilum
HEALTH BENEFITS
Abrus precatorius helps to treat fever, dysentery, stomach disorders, abdominal colic of newborns with fresh plant (leaves, stems, roots together without seeds) or dried. Decoction of these leaves contributes to the treatment of diabetes
