DEFINITION

PRESENTATRION
Herbaceous up to 2 m tall, in the shape of a thin distaff. Leaves alternate, pinnate, arranged in a spiral; leaflets 3-6 pairs, ovate to lanceolate, acute to acuminate; petiole with a gland at the base, sessile, rounded or conical; stipules linear-lanceolate to triangular, acuminate, caducous. Axillary racemes with yellow flowers; sepals oblong, obtuse; ovate or elliptical petals. Pod linear, obtuse, mucronate, erect, more or less arched, with numerous ovoid seeds.
BENEFITS
This plant is very popular; its leaves are particularly recommended for giving childbirth to pregnant women because they are oxytocic. TOXICITY
The seeds of the Cassia occidentalis plant are considered poisonous as they are not naturally consumed by livestock and it is also recommended to keep animals away from these seeds due to toxalbumin, an enzyme that causes poisoning. However, it loses this toxicity thanks to the heat.
